New England Branch Annual Luncheon
Saturday, November 8, 2008
Peabody Essex Museum, Salem, Massachusetts
With the largest attendance in many years, if not a record, the New England Branch held its annual luncheon at the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, Massachusetts, on Saturday, the 8th of November 2008. Following a lively reception, forty-four members, Friends, and guests were treated to a delightful fall luncheon before viewing a wonderful new exhibit, "To the Ends of the Earth, Painting the Polar Landscape." A very uplifting prayer was offered by the Rev. John Van Siclen of Walpole, Maine, for a number of our members who currently are experiencing health problems and personal difficulties.
Charles Zabriskie, Jr., Branch President, recognized with a bottle of wine all the new members and Friends present, along with Reverend Van Siclen and Ferd Wyckoff (Kennebunkport, Maine), as well as John and Diane VanDerbeek (Mercer Island, Washington) for their great leadership and service to the Society. John discussed a number of issues and developments within the Society, as well as touching on the forthcoming 2009 celebration.
Charlie thanked all in attendance for their generous gifts and participation in the Henry Hudson Capital Campaign. He went on to say that the New England Branch has the highest percentage of participation among its members for a large branch and was the second largest contributor to the national capital campaign.
Charlie continues to feel that the annual branch luncheon, which promotes camaraderie and friendship, is the hallmark of The Holland Society at the branch level.
