The 26th Peter Stuyvesant Ball The Daffodil Ball
The 26th Annual Peter Stuyvesant Ball
A number of members of the Holland Society of New York and friends of the Holland Society of New York gathered
at the Grand Hyatt New York on Friday, November 16, 2007 for "The Daffodil Ball," the 26th Annual Peter Stuyvesant
Ball to benefit the Netherland-America Foundation.
Honored guests at the banquet included Their Highnesses Prince Maurits and Princess Marilene van Oranje Nassau and
patron of the Netherland-America Foundation Professor Pieter van Vollenhoven.
On April 20th of 2007, Mayor Michael Bloomberg proclaimed the daffodil the official flower of New York City.
This flower was selected as a symbol of renewal and hope after the events of September 11, 2001. The symbol of
renewal was honored at the 2007 Annual Peter Stuyvesant Ball where the NAF's mission of strengthening of bonds
between the United States of America and the Netherlands was celebrated.
Guests were treated to a delightful program which included the Entrance of Distinguished Guests and
Presentation of the colors and national anthems, a most warm welcome from Ennuis E. Bergsma, Chairman of
The Netherland-America Foundation, and Presentation of the Peter Stuyvesant Award to Maurits E. Edersheim.
Guests then enjoyed a gourmet four course dinner and complementary wines. The program continued with remarks by
Professor Gerlach J. Cerfontaine, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Schiphol Group, and the presentation
of a gift from the City of Amsterdam to the City of New York in the form of funds for the restoration of the Peter
Stuyvesant painting in City Hall.
After dinner, guests enjoyed dancing and a silent auction which raised funds for NAF through the auctioning
of such items as a First Class Trip to Paris, a round trip to Dubai, and of course a round trip from
New York to Amsterdam.
Following the auction, guests retired to the Folly Nightclub set up at the Hyatt with fabulous entertainment
by the Lieven Venken Project.
Don't miss out on this event scheduled for November 21, 2008 and check back frequently
