Niagara Branch Meeting 2015

On Wednesday September 16, 2015 the Niagara Frontier Branch of the Holland Society held its annual dinner meeting at the Saturn Club in Buffalo, New York.

Our speaker was Nancy Knechtel professor of Fine Arts Niagara County Community College.
Her topic was based on ‘A Walk through the Golden Age: Dutch Artists, Museums and Canal Houses. Through her words and visuals we experienced fascinating aspects of Dutch life, their values and how all this is relevant to us today.

In addition to our guest speaker, we had two past Holland Society Presidents in attendance.
Prior to Nancy's talk both Colin Lazier and Chuck Zabriskie informed attendees about Holland Society activities.

Our annual meeting is primarily a social occasion where members, friends and guests have an opportunity to reconnect as well as refresh our perceptions about our Dutch ancestry.

The Niagara Branch encompasses a fairly large geographic area of NYS and includes parts of Southern Ontario, Canada.

Members and guests attending were:
Henrietta Jockin, Colin & Barbara Lazier, Wayne & Katie Maybee, John & Rebecca Montague, David, Adrian & Molly Quackenbush, Nancy Knetchel, Thomas Schofield, Scott Van Buskirk, Glenn Van Buskirk, T.J. Van Deusen, Ted Van Deusen, Vandy Van Deusen, Charles & Star Zabriskie, & Connie Constantine.

The annual Niagara Frontier Branch Meeting was held at the Saturn Club on Wednesday September 29, 2010. Twenty-two members and their guests reconnected and told stories new and old.

A special treat was a presentation by William ‘Chip' Reynolds, Captain of de Halve Maen, who spoke about early Dutch navigation and commence as well as the technology of the day and its uncanny accuracy. His presentation was supported by numerous visuals and everyone present learned a great deal about Dutch influences past and present.

Our Society President, Colin Lazier, addressed the group stating that it was great to be addressing his home chapter. He brought the group up to date on happenings at the New York Headquarters as well as other branch meetings that he has recently attended with his wife Barbara.

Society members attending were:

Appleton ‘Tony' Fryer, John and Alenka Heyer, Colin S and Jolly Lazier, Tom Lazier, Colin and Barbara Lazier, David and Molly Quackenbush, Ted Van Deusen, Vandy Van Deusen IV, Harold and Kathleen Van Voorhis, and Tyler Van Schoonhoven.
