Initiatives of the Holland Society of New York

There are three major initiatives which are the current focus of the President, the Board of Trustees,
Officers, Friends and Members of the Holland Society of New York. These initiatives are:
Hudson 400 Membership Drive
As the 400th anniversary of the landing of Henry Hudson on the shores of Nieuw Amsterdam approaches in
2009, our Membership Committee is hard at work to increase the membership of our organization by 400 members,
one new member to celebrate each year since our ancestors first set foot on the shores of the island later
named Manhattan. Co-Chaired by Texas Branch President Patrick Van Pelt ([email protected]) and Mid-West Branch
President Dr. Bob Schenck ([email protected]) with able assistance from a number of others, the Membership
Committee is surveying our members to obtain their input for the Society as well as identifying potential legacy
Members and Friends.
Henry Hudson Capital Campaign
The capital campaign was inspired by our 2008 Achievement Medal Honoree, Past President William Van Winkle,
who realized the need for a strong capital campaign with the move of the headquarters and library to 20 W. 44th
Street. Led by Trustee and New England Branch President Charles Zabriskie
Jr. ([email protected]) the successful
campaign will conclude at the end of 2008 or sooner when the fund raising and library endowment goals are reached.
Hudson 400 Celebration
The world will celebrate the 400th anniversary of the landing of Henry Hudson in Nieuw Amsterdam in 2009.
This grand celebration will focus on New York City and the entire state of New York particularly the Hudson
River Valley where the replica of Henry Hudson's ship Halve Maen (Half Moon) will sail up the "Great River"
just as Hudson did 400 years ago. Leading the Holland Society's participation in the 2009 Celebration are
Co-Chairs Trustee and New Amsterdam Branch President Bromme H.
Cole ([email protected]) and Trustee James
Van Wagner ([email protected])
