Joseph Hoagland, Holland Society Trustee
Holland Society Trustee and Life Member Joseph Hoagland owns and operates a cattle ranch near Leavenworth, Kansas,
on the banks of the Missouri River. Together with his wife, Norma (a former Miss Kansas) they started a new breed of
cattle, the American Black Hereford. Each year in February they hold a production sale at the Ranch. Last year it
attracted buyers from 19 states. They also own the historic Gunbarrel Ranch in the Kansas Flint Hills.
Joe is a graduate of Tulane University and the University of Kansas Law School. After practicing law for seven
years in his own firm, Ross & Hoagland, he became President of RacketGroup, a supplier of Inflight passenger service
products. The company was recognized on three separate occasions as one of the fastest growing companies in Kansas City.
Today they have offices in Hong Kong, Brussels and Kansas City and do business with airlines throughout the world.
In addition, Joe was elected to the Kansas State Legislature six times and served as Majority Leader before his retirement
from politics. Prior to September 11, 2001, he worked for many years in professional baseball as a scout for the Houston
Astros, New York Yankees and New York Mets. In 2000, he signed the Mets' first round draft pick, Bob Keppel, a high school
pitcher from St. Louis.
Joe and Norma's eldest daughter, Anne Bauer and her husband Brandon (also a lawyer) live on the Ranch as well, in a
modern day 'Southfork' lifestyle. Joe and Norma expect a grandchild this fall. The Hoagland's son, Dirck, a Holland
Society of New York Life Member, also has a home on the Ranch, and is engaged to be married this fall. Dirck replaced
his father as President and CEO of RacketGroup last summer when Joe formally retired. Their youngest daughter, Emma,
is a nursing student at Creighton University. Joe and Norma travel to New York regularly for Holland Society events and
also enjoy attending branch functions. They would love to host a Mid-West Branch function at their fabulous ranch!
